It's been a while since I posted - blogged? here. And I thought it was time to revive the writing. This topic is a great way to start... STRESS!
Well, I never understood… How I could I eat NOTHING for most of the day and STILL gain weight? I worked long hours… On the go from sun up to sun down, getting tons of steps in, meeting deadlines & doing “all the things” at home, too! I didn’t eat or when I did, I was in a rush. I grabbed packaged “lean” microwave lunches. And at home, I ate soothing stuff. Can you relate?! But I still gained weight! And I wondered: How can this be?! What I know now… It was partly poor & uninformed eating choices, but it was also STRESS that caused my weight gain. It may seem counterintuitive, but it’s science. Listen… I know that work/life “balance” isn’t easy. I still struggle at times. Our responsibilities as professional busy women are real, and it’s not always a matter of having the willpower to “just do it.” That’s why I show my clients how to manage that imbalance. Your job and that crazy busy schedule - it’s just NOT worth your health! So I’ll share a few things that help reduce stress EVEN in super busy times: 1. Work in intense 90 min. spurts for productivity & to reduce anxiety. 2. Take short stretch or walk breaks during the day, especially when you feel frustrated. 3. Take long, deep breathes when you feel stressed. 4. Pack healthy snacks for the office/classroom, especially when you don’t have time to take a real lunch break. 5. Put down your phone at a set time each night, so you sleep better. Bonus tip for when things or people really tick you off! Instead of reacting in the moment, when you get angry, take a “cooling breath.” Here’s how: Breathe in through your mouth like you’re sucking on a straw. Then breathe out through your nose. You’ll feel a drying sensation over the top of your tongue. It “cools” you down, let’s you hit the pause button, and gives you time to think about your response. High five to all you hard working women taking the professional world by storm AND rocking it as moms and g-moms too! P.S. I show my clients how a short, effective 20-25 min. morning sweat helps, too! Let’s chat about how you can hit your goals!
